Christian Kongawi an is award winning musician born in The Congo, DRC who immigrated to Canada 1996 during the Congolese civil war. In order to have a better life, his parents sent him to with family friends, (and former missionaries in the Congo) in Prince Albert SK, where his love of music was nurtured.
Christian is best known as a touring and session musician; working with The Rebellion, Alexis Normand, The Pistolwhips, Smokekiller, Jen Lane and The Sheepdogs (and many more), as well as sharing the stage with Prince and The Backstreet Boys.
Between 2012 – 2014 Christian raised funds through Potluck Fundraising Concerts in Saskatoon, SK to head the rebuild 3 schools The Congo. A 2014 Nomination at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA 2014), Christian's hunger to grow his craft steered him to Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA (MIT) . This dream was made possible by a very loving family (thanks mom and dad!), The Sask Arts Board's Independent Artist Award, John Antoniuk and Jen Lane. Thanks Christian scholar achievements, he was awarded the Evans Drums Scholarship to continue his studies.
In 2016, Christian was recruited by Carnival Cruise Line as a Show band Musician, where he rose to the rank of Music Director. In this role Christian was part of the Inaugural Team of The Carnival Panorama, as part of the creation team of ROCK REVOLUTIONS: SUMMER OF 69, an award winning production show paying homage to the music of Woodstock. In this role, Christian was awarded Leader Of The Month 4 times between 2016-2020.
As an adventuring soul Christian continues to perform, teach and record with his Kelowna based percussion company, Konga percussion, All the while chipping away on his dream: Restoring Tammy Wynnette’s tour bus into a tiny home!
